Switzerland has a wealth of natural and cultivated
landscapes. But our natural and cultural heritage is coming under increasing
pressure from human interference. The landscape cannot protect itself against
it; it needs an «advocate». This is why the Swiss Foundation for
Landscape Conservation (SL/FP) was created in 1970. The SL/FP sees itself
as an advocate and mediator in preserving the diversity of our landscape as a
habitat for humans, animals and plants. It aims to provide comprehensive
protection for unspoilt landscapes, river banks and lake shores, and to keep
traditional vineyards or forest edges intact. It aims to protect the landscape
when it comes to planning and constructing buildings and installations, as well
as to preserve and care for our cultural heritage. It monitors proper
implementation of legislation, advises authorities and builders, produces
expert reports, organizes specialized conferences, informs the public, and
publishes a range of documents. SL/FP is a purely idealistic, independent,
private organization based in Berne. Its Board consists of 18 representatives
of nature and heritage conservation organizations, land-use planning
authorities, the Alpine Club, the Swiss Tourism Federation, the Swiss
government and the private industry. A small, full-time office handles
day-to-day business. The SL/FP is funded by a Sponsors' Association, of which
you, too, can become a member. |
