Steam Rotary Snow Blower R 12
Until recently the
giant steam rotary snow blower Xrotd 9212, briefly called R12, was stationed in
Gletsch. It is an industrial monument dating from 1913, which belonged to the
RhB, was stationed in Davos and was of the same type as R13 and R14 at the
Bernina. It is famous for its enormous power but, unfortunately, cannot be used
in its present condition. What should happen with this giant? Breaking it up
because it takes a lot of room, or restore it cosmetically for the museum ? Or
restore it and use it again ?
In
September 2006, R12 was transferred from Gletsch via Realp to Goldau, to a shop
where it will be restored ready for service. This has been resolved, as a group
of railroad enthusiasts in Central Switzerland will carry out this work without
a significant burden to the DFB-budget. We hope that it will be ready when
the last track section to Oberwald opens. BRAVO !
When the work in the DFB-shop at Chur on
HG 3/4 FO 4 had been completed, the restoration of the first HG 4/4 from Vietnam had begun. This most powerful one-meter-gauged steam
locomotive from Lokomotivfabrik Winterthur, dating from the thirties, was once
ordered by France for its Indochina colony (Vietnam). This locomotive was also
repatriated in 1990 with the Action Back to Switzerland. The restoration of HG 4/4
is supported by the 1000er Club . This powerful locomotive will then be
the ideal vehicle to push R12.
